We are a friendly bunch
Until a personal epiphany in 2004, Susie was a PR consultant specialising in business to business marketing and media relations. Her work for Remploy, an employer of disabled people, led to an increasing need to ‘make a difference’ rather than make a profit, and following a period of community volunteering she worked in South and then East Leeds in various community development roles. Food and health has always been a major interest for Susie both professionally and personally, and her leadership of Zest since February 2009 has seen the organisation develop into a respected provider of food and health work across the city, with the Jamie’s Ministry of Food Leeds project being a flagship of both Zest, the city and the Yorkshire region.
Recent years have been challenging for all such organisations in the sector and her role continues to be one of ensuring the survival of the organisation whilst enabling the best possible delivery of work to address health inequalities within deprived communities, in a climate of cuts, changes and increasing need.
